    SAS 2019: US Navy & Raytheon Continue Excalibur N5 Munition Testing

    Raytheon announced during Sea Air Space 2019 that, together with the U.S. Navy, they completed a new round of successful Excalibur N5 munition test firings. The precision-guided projectiles demonstrated various short, mid and long range capabilities.

    SAS 2019: Surface Warfare & Expeditionary Mission Payload for CUSV

    Textron Systems, In cooperation with the United States Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD), unveiled the Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV) fitted with the surface warfare payload at this year’s Sea Air Space exhibition in Washington DC.

    Textron’s armed CUSV features two weapons systems: The Battle Management System (a vertical launcher for Hellfire missiles) and a remotely-operated weapon station: The ARES Control combined with an FN Herstal SeaDeFNder. This further development is part of a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) signed in January 2018 with Textron “ to develop and integrate surface warfare payloads onto the Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle (CUSV).”

    This, in addition to the ALAMO round, will make the LCS and FFG(X) quite potent despite their smaller 57mm main guns

    Raytheon Company successfully tested a hot fire rocket motor for DARPA's Multi-Azimuth Defense Fast Intercept Round Engagement System, or MAD-FIRES, the US defense giant stated at Sea Air Space 2019, held in Washington.

    At the Sea Air Space 2019 exposition currently held near Washington DC, Austal USA unveiled a new range of catamaran and trimaran medium to large size Unmanned Surface Vessels (USV).

    According to Austal USA, these new designs reflect the company’s ability to generate forward thinking customized surface ship solutions affordable to the U.S. Navy.

    “A USMC NSM supports the 2018 National Defense Strategy and Commandant of the Marine Corps modernization efforts,” said Raytheon, which confirmed that the USMC NSM will be similar to the one selected last year by the US Navy.

    Fincantieri Unveils FREMM FFG(X) Design

    With the Bergamini-class FREMM Frigate of the Italian Navy as its parent design, Fincanteri’s FFG(X) is 496 feet in length and 65 feet wide.

    It can reach a sustained speed of 26+ knots and an economic speed of 16+ knots thanks to its CODLAG propulsion system. The design has a range of 6,000+ nautical miles at a speed of 16 knots. The vessel can accommodate up to 200 sailors.

    SAS 2019: Raytheon lifts veil on Coyote Block 2 suicide drone

    Raytheon has for the very first time publicly introduced the Block 2 variant of its Coyote anti-UAS system at this year’s Sea Air & Space exposition. Intended to be officially proposed for any US air defense program, « the Coyote Block 2 is a game changer in the field of targeting UAV or even bigger targets », Naval News learned.

    First of a new species of advanced VTOL unmanned system appeared at Sea Air Space 2019 exposition, held this week in National Harbor. Designed by the California-based Dzyne Technologies, the ROTORwing intends to optimize both hovering and forward flight.

    LIG Nex1 officially opened a new Goalkeeper CIWS maintenance facility at the company’s Gumi plant on Tuesday, April 16. The ceremony was attended by Kwon Byung-Hyun, LIG Next 1 Production Division General Manager and Geert van der Molen, Vice-President of Thales Netherland.

    The RoK Navy currently operates the Goalkeeper CIWS on four types of ships: the Gwanggaeto the Great-class, Chungmugong Yi Sun-sin-class and Sejong the Great-class destroyers as well as on the Dokdo-class LHD/LPH vessels.

  14. Future Swedish Navy SIGINT vessel launched in Poland

    Nauta Shiprepair Yard has completed the next milestone in the construction of the Swedish SIGINT ship for the Royal Swedish Navy. Outfitting and equipment installation will take place in Nauta Shiprepair Yard, after which the vessel will undergo harbour and sea trials. The ship will then sail to Saab’s shipyard in Karlskrona to complete outfitting of special systems.
